Kellan Lutz had the opportunity to fill Robert Pattinson’s shoes as Edward in “New Moon” — and he passed!
The “New Moon” hottie confided on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS FM show Monday morning that he was approached to play Edward, but turned down the chance of a lifetime because he didn’t dig the moody vampire’s bad case of teenage angst.
“I said ‘I don’t want to play Edward – he’s too complex, too depressing for me,” Kellan revealed. “I kept on saying ‘no, no, no.’ [Producers] called a week later – it took a week of me saying no — and said, ‘What about Emmett?’”
The rest is history. “He only had four lines, but every line described me,” he enthused. “He seemed like one of those fun-loving characters that I love to play.”
And who could blame the guy for wanting a break from drama? He had just spent seven months in Africa playing a killer marine in “Generation Kill” and was clearly in need of a vacation. “I was not wanting to act after that,” he revealed.
At least Kellan doesn’t regret giving up his big break. He immediately dismissed any lingering regret, saying, “No, not at all. I don’t care about being famous. I can just float.”
Too late, buddy. News flash: you’re already a star!
